Honourable prospective delegates and journalists, distinguished members of the Secretariat and of the Executive Committee, dear friends and supporters of MUNUSAL,

We, Jaqueline Wendel and Borja Pampillón Rial, warmly welcome you at the 12th edition of the MUNUSAL, which will be hosted in the beautiful city of Salamanca. Its Old City was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988 and the University of Salamanca is the oldest university in the Hispanic world and the third oldest university in the entire world still in operation. We hope that this environment full of culture and history will inspire you to be experience everything the city and MUNUSAL has to offer.

Today we encounter a world that is disenchanted with politics and scepticism towards principles such as multilateralism and international cooperation that have for decades shaped our understanding of the world prevails. In many countries, governments gain power which want to break down many of the achievements of the United Nations of the last 70 years. But your decision to join MUNUSAL shows that there still is a young generation believing in the value of international exchange and cooperation. You represent a new generation of students that understand that we need to solve the 21st Century problems and that we need to work together to be able to achieve goals such as preserving the environment and improving the world we live in today.

During the conference you look at some of the greatest problems of our time and core tasks of the UN from different angles dealing with security, environmental and educational issues as well as fundamental rights in the face of new challenges.

​

We hope that through your participation in the discussions during MUNUSAL 2019 you will enhance your understanding of international institutions. We hope you will take a different perspective on some of the most pressing issues of international politics and gather new insides on the matters. But most importantly we hope that you will take this experience of meeting people from all over the world and build new friendships.

Honorables futuros delegados y periodistas, distinguidos miembros del Secretariat y del Comité Ejecutivo, queridos amigos de MUNUSAL,

Nosotros, Jaqueline Wendel y Borja Pampillón Rial, queremos daros una calurosa bienvenida a la 12ª edición de MUNUSAL, que se celebrará en la hermosa ciudad de Salamanca. Su casco antiguo fue declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad en 1988, la Universidad de Salamanca es la más antigua del mundo hispánico y la tercera más antigua del mundo en funcionamiento. Esperamos que este entorno repleto de cultura e historia os inspire a aprovechar todo lo que la ciudad y MUNUSAL tienen que ofrecer.

Hoy nos encontramos con un mundo desencantado con la política, donde prevalece el escepticismo hacia principios tales como el multilateralismo y la cooperación internacional, los cuales han conformado nuestra forma de entender el mundo durante décadas. En muchos países han llegado al poder gobiernos que quieren derribar muchos de los logros conseguidos por la ONU en estos últimos 70 años.

​

A pesar de esto, vuestra decisión de uniros a MUNUSAL demuestra que todavía hay una generación joven que cree en el valor del intercambio y la cooperación internacionales. Representáis a una nueva generación de estudiantes que comprende que necesitamos solucionar los problemas del siglo XXI; que tenemos que trabajar juntos para alcanzar metas como preservar el medio ambiente y mejorar el mundo en el que hoy vivimos.

​

Durante la conferencia lidiaréis con algunos de los problemas más graves de nuestro tiempo y con tareas clave de la ONU desde distintos ángulos, donde se tratarán asuntos de seguridad, medioambientales y educativos, así como los derechos fundamentales frente a nuevos desafíos.

​

Esperamos que con vuestra participación en los debates de MUNUSAL 2019 mejoréis vuestro conocimiento de las organizaciones internacionales. También esperamos que tengáis una perspectiva distinta de algunos de los temas más candentes de la política internacional y que recibáis esta nueva información de primera mano. Aunque lo más importante es que esperamos que esta experiencia os sirva para conocer gente de todo el mundo y forjar nuevas amistades.
